The Manitoba Fibre Festival is launching the Janice Charko Emerging Makers Market. A space within the Manitoba Fibre Festival vendor hall dedicated to makers starting out or reinvigorating their maker business.

Applications for the 2025 Emerging Makers Market at the Manitoba Fibre Festival are open from May 7-June 6, 2025. Decisions will be shared with applicants in the second half of June.

The Emerging Makers Market supports new makers financially and with business resources to encourage growth and new participation in the fibre arts industry in Manitoba.

Who qualifies as an emerging maker?

  • Makers who have never vended at a market before

  • Makers in the first year or two of their business or makers looking to reinvigorate a dormant business

  • Makers who are considering monetizing their hobby

  • Makers who are creating new products that are within the Manitoba Fibre Festival mandate

About the Janice Charko Fibre Arts Fund

This fund was established in 2022 when the Festival was given the honour of disbursing and selling Janice’s incredible collection of tools and materials, built up over a lifetime of creative work. The money raised from that sale has been used by the Festival to enrich the local fibre arts community through classes, displays, and special projects.

In 2023 the Fund supported The Prairie Alphabet Project display, and Shelly Nicolle-Phillips’ workshop at the Festival. As of 2025, the fund supports the Emerging Makers program at the Manitoba Fibre Festival.

Donations can be made to the Janice Charko Fibre Arts Fund anytime.
