Cattails and bulrushes make surprisingly sturdy baskets that are great for gathering small things, insulating water bottles or even decorative flower pot cozies. In this workshop, you'll learn when and how to harvest and prepare the right reeds and then create your own unique basket!

Students bring to class: Large towel, scissors

Laura Reeves is a botanist and founder of Prairie Shore Botanicals. She loves to share her passion for natural basketry, wild edibles and other plant uses through courses, workshops and plant walks. She is the author of "Laura Reeves' Guide to Useful Plants – From Acorns to Zoom Sticks", a fun collection of her experiences with over 60 Manitoba plants and mushrooms. Laura lives near Gardenton, MB, where she operates a native plant nursery and continues to expand, and learn from, her prairie restoration project.
