Fleece Show & Sale 2026

We invite sheep producers across the country to enter their fleeces to our annual fleece competition. We also encourage producers to sell their fleeces during the sale at the Manitoba Fibre Festival (September 11th & 12th, 2026).

General Rules

Submitting a Fleece: You can make pick-up and drop off arrangements with the Wool Show Coordinator, or deliver them to the Red River Exhibition Place.

Drop-off - Contact Shirley Harvey (see contact info on entry form) to make arrangements for pick-up and drop off locations throughout the summer.

Delivery - Thursday September 10th, 12:00 - 4:00pm or Friday September 11th prior to 11am. Red River Exhibition Place, 3977 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg

Entry Fee: $10.00 per fleece for the show. $5.00 per fleece for sale only.

Payment can be made via cash, cheque or e-transfer to finances@manitobafibrefestival.com

About the Show & Sale

Fleeces submitted must be from this year's clip and placed in a CLEAR PLASTIC BAG. The fleeces should be skirted and not heavily contaminated with vegetable matter. Manitoba Fibre Festival will make every effort to display and care for the entered fleeces, but assumes no responsibility for damaged, lost, stolen, or erroneously sold fleeces.

Wool Auction: Grand champion, Reserve champion and first place fleeces in each category will be sold via silent auction (unless marked "Not for Sale").

Date: Friday, September 11th from 5:00pm - Saturday, September 12th at 3:00pm

 

Judging Information

Location: Red River Exhibition Place

Judge: Brian Greaves

Fleeces are judged as a hand spinner/artisan show and are assessed for soundness, cleanliness including yield, as well as handle, staple length, crimp style and uniformity characteristic to the breed.

Winning fleeces in each class are sold by silent auction, starting at 5:00pm on Friday with the bidding closing at 3:00pm on Saturday. Award winning fleeces remain on display until the auction closes. All other fleeces are available for immediate purchase and removal. 

Selling Fleeces at the Festival

Fleeces can be submitted for sale only, without being entered into the wool show. The cost to sell is $5 per fleece. Here are important details for the sale:

  • The sale begins Friday at 3:00pm and closes on Saturday at 3:00pm.

  • The Festival acts as a broker, collecting sale money for producers and paying it out following the event. 

  • Producers set the price for their fleeces.

  • Any unsold fleeces must be collected on September 12th between 3:00 - 4:00pm or they become the property of the festival.
