Thursday, September 10th, 1 - 3:30pm (2.5hrs) $105
Discover the magic of dyeing fabric with Indigo, a rare true-blue natural dye, and one of the most revered of the natural dyes. In this workshop, we'll discuss the story of indigo, including the process of creating an indigo dye bath (due to time limitations, the dye baths will be pre-made). Then each participant will create pattern-work on a 24" x 24" organic cotton bandana, and dip their creations in the indigo dye bath to the desired depth of blue.
Ages 16+
Students to bring: An apron is recommended, and students may want to wear clothes that will not be ruined if indigo dye is splashed on them.
Price Breakdown: $45 materials fee includes prepared (scoured) organic cotton bandana, indigo and additional materials for the vat and pattern making, $60 registration fee
Meet the Instructor: Marilyn Firth, Almost Urban Fibreworks
Marilyn Firth is a fibre crafter and artist who has worked in multiple fibre arts for over 40 years. She grows her own dye flowers and plants on her farm in St. Norbert, Manitoba, and works with wool, silk, cotton and linen.
Workshop Cancellation Policy
A full refund will be issued if a workshop is cancelled by the Manitoba Fibre Festival for any reason, including instructor illness or low enrollment.
Student cancellations made by September 1st will be refunded the materials and registration fee, less a $10 admin fee. Withdrawals after September 1st will be refunded the materials fee only.
