METIS BEADING EXPERIENCE (2-Needle Style) with Melanie Gamache
Friday, September 11th, 9 am - Noon, (3 hrs)
Discover the art of two-needle style beading in this hands-on crafting experience that blends creativity with cultural tradition. Using one needle to string beads and a second to couch them into place, participants will learn one of the foundational techniques used by Métis artisans to create intricate, floral designs. Students will create a needle case cover with the option to customize it with extra "pages" or pockets for extra storage. No prior beading experience is required—just a willingness to learn, a bit of patience, and a positive attitude as you explore this meaningful and rewarding skill.
Students Bring to Class: reading glasses, if needed
Price Breakdown: $60 materials fee includes 2-needle beading kit (ready to bead project, pattern, beads, needles, thread), $72 registration fee
Ages: 16+
Meet the Instructor: Melanie Gamache, Borealis Beading
Melanie Gamache, Francophone Red River Métis beadwork artisan and owner/operator of Borealis Beading, brings a vibrant and adventurous spirit to every experience, shaped by a colorful history that spans diverse work across Manitoba and a love of the outdoors—dog sledding, kick sledding, fishing, and exploring nature. Over the past 11 years, she has embarked on a personal journey of cultural rediscovery, diving deeply into her Métis heritage on her father’s side, beginning with learning the intricate art of beadwork in 2014, and transforming that passion into immersive cultural experiences for others.
