Friday, September 11th, 1 - 3pm, (2 hours)
Plant to dye, dye to pigment, and pigment to paint. Raine will lead participants through these intriguing processes to turn plant dye into water-insoluble lake pigment, and then into watercolour paint, with all-natural ingredients. Would you believe that honey is involved? Come prepared to measure, mix, mull (we’ll talk about it), and paint! We will be handling fine powder, so tight-fitting masks are recommended for that step.
Students Bring to Class: Apron or clothes that can get dirty, tight sealing mask (something like a disposable KN95) for working with fine powders. The mask won't be needed the whole time, just when handling fine powders. Extras will be available.
Price Breakdown: $25 materials fee includes dye, lake pigment, watercolour binder ingredients, watercolor paper and paintbrush, $48 registration fee
Ages: 14+
Meet the Instructor: Raine Hamilton, Plant Colour by Raine
Raine creates with joy, curiosity, and delight. Plant dyeing, watercolour painting, print making, drawing, music-making, and sewing are tools within an arm’s reach. Join Raine in the process of lake pigment extraction and watercolour binding to create plant-led, natural ingredient watercolour paints that dance across the page.
