INTRO TO BOUTIS: FRENCH CORDED QUILTING with Anne Skarzenski

Saturday, September 12th, 9am - Noon, (3 hrs)

Boutis is a quilting technique that creates a raised surface design. Students will learn to prepare fabric, Boutis style stitching, cording of the project, and about modern and traditional Boutis designs. Students will create their own small Boutis square. 

Students Bring to Class: A headlamp for better visibility, favourite thimble, notepad and pencil.

Price Breakdown: $53 materials fee includes original design on cotton batiste, Boutis needles, thread and instructions, $72 registration fee

Ages: 14+, must have basic handstitching knowledge

Meet the Instructor: Anne Skarzenski, Atelier S

Anne Skarzenski has been immersed in fibre and textile arts since childhood, and over the years, her passion for Historical Fibre Arts has only deepened. With a BA and MA in Art History. Her family’s history in the textile industry in France sparked her interest in Boutis—an intricate, corded quilting technique with roots in 17th-century Provence. Now, Anne is eager to share this traditional art form with others. In her classes, Anne combines history, skill, and creativity, guiding students through centuries-old crafts while offering a fresh, modern perspective.

Workshop Cancellation Policy
A full refund will be issued if a workshop is cancelled by the Manitoba Fibre Festival for any reason, including instructor illness or low enrollment.
Student cancellations made by September 1st will be refunded the materials and registration fee, less a $10 admin fee. Withdrawals after September 1st will be refunded the materials fee only.
